3 DIY masks for healthy hair

22 Apr

My mother (and hers, and hers before her) have always had gorgeous hair and always get compliments for how healthy and lush they look!

I believe almost all of the credit goes to how they take care of their hair! I don’t remember a single weekend, growing up, when my mother wasn’t putting on one home-made hair mask or another on her hair. And she always tells me that it is their use that has allowed her hair to remain soft and shiny till now! That, and eating healthy!

Here are three DIY masks that I have seen her using a lot, and that I love the results of when I make the effort of using them too!

For dry hair!

  1. For when your hair feels dry:-

This one is a favorite, because after this mask my hair feel so good to touch and are so silky and smooth that I don’t even have to style them. They look perfect as they are!
    What you need:
    -7 strawberries
    -1 egg yolk
    _1.5 tbsp Olive oil
    How to:
Blend all the ingredients and leave the mask on for 20-30 minutes before washing your hair. Not only will you be able to skip your conditioner but your hair will smell delicious!

    Turmeric hair mask

  2. For when your hair needs that extra nourishment:-

I use this when I feel very guilty of how (badly) I have been treating my hair! I feel like this gives my hair the perfect pick-me-up, and says a little “I am sorry” from me!
    What you need:
    -1 tbsp turmeric powder
    -3 tbsp yogurt
-1 tbsp oil (olive or coconut)
    How to:
Mix the ingredients together well, leave on for 30-40 minutes and wash off. You might need to shampoo twice to get all of the turmeric out!

    Avocado mask

  3. For when your hair feels too dull:

This mask will give your hair both a nice shine and the right amount of softness. Plus it uses one of my favorite ingredients-avocado!
    What you need:
    -1 ripe avocado
-1 tbsp oil (coconut or olive)
    -1 tsp honey
    How to:
Smash the avocado, and mix in the other ingredients.
Leave the mask in your hair for 15-20 minutes and then wash it out. You can add more oil if you feel the need, but remember that might mean shampooing your hair twice to get all the oil out!

I hope you try these masks out and they are as helpful to you as they have been to the women in my family.
Lots of love,
Gull!

It’s not easy I tell you.
The curling, the blow-drying.
The skin care, the make-up.
The dressing, the walk, the talk.

Being a girly girl, it is infinitely more than this all, and hence so so hard.
I mean, it’s adopting a lifestyle, but it feels more like a 24/7 job.
Progress? There has been some, just some. The walking might not be at it’s best, but my slouching habits are much a story of the past. Which brings me to my next aim, my hair.

I love my hair, I really do. But I have gotten into the habit of doing nothing to them-NOTHING. I just brush them, and I am out the door. Part of it might be the fact that I love the snooze button of my alarm, and am usually left with five minutes to do it all, from brushing my teeth to making it to the car on time (in the right shoes…;-) ) almost every morning.

It was only this past weekend that I got my hair blow dried into the most delish of waves when I realized what a rut I had gotten myself into where my hair are concerned (or maybe it was my friends’ shock on the change in my hairstyle that finally jarred me out of the laziness), but either ways, it has made me realize that it is time to up my game.

New Objective:- Try new hairstyles.

But tell me, are you having trouble with styling you hair too? How are you dealing with it? If you have any tips for vegetables like me when it comes to hair, I would love to hear them.

Until next time, here is some rad pretty stuff to inspire your femininity.

1. This pink coat is like the chicest girly-go to!

A splash of peach on me…

A splash of peach on me...

I don’t like copying people, I don’t like imitating their actions, habits, activities in anyway. I not only think anything otherwise would be demeaning but I also believe that it would take myself away from me. I like being original, I like being me-however weird that me might be.
Yet, now and then, even I join the world and do what everyone else is doing, be a little normal.
So, here I am, being a little self-obsessed and taking a snap of my own clothes. Maybe this will inspire someone out there. Or just make them laugh. But in any and every form I just want my blog to be enjoyed.

Zooey rocking in Rachel Antonoff.

Zooey rocking in Rachel Antonoff.

So its Christmas eve, and I am drifting through some stores for some last minute buys and I just came across these amazing siblings, the Antonoffs. The brother is a drummer in a music band while the sister is the brains behind the brand Rachel Antonoff(named after herself); and boy is she good at what she does! If that’s not enough to convince you, then just take a look at how adorable Zooey Deschanel is looking in her creation. Beautiful, right?

Her fashion show at its best!

Her fashion show at its best!

Its not just her designs that are mind blowing, its the creativity clear in every detail of them which enhances her work. Still she is most known for her knack of doing the best, out of box shows, so I cant go on without mentioning that. Her most recent one was in the form of a tea party, with even a cat roaming around and a huge cake for eating, while the famous as well as the not so famous walked around showing off her clothes.

My personal favorite piece from her show is the pair of shoes shown below, which she did in a collaboration with Bass. I am sure that once the Christmas rush is over, I am going to be buying them. And a lot of other merchandise from her store.

My tip for you is to head over to her Facebook page, or her website, as soon as possible and check her out.

XOXO
P.S. I am posting this today, because I got too busy last night to do it! But I had to leave this for you.

These flats from Rachel Antonoff are my latest find, and I am in love with these.

Andy T-The Blog Diva

There are more then just over several hundred people with blogs on fashion and more then just a dozen or two famous internationally for these blogs, but sometimes you come across fashion bloggers that might be very slightly short of being at the top most position in the fame list, but you feel them to be every bit worthy of their international acclaim.
Andy from StyleScrapbook is one of those.
Her aesthetic sense is not just off the charts, it’s captivatingly appealing globally. And her elegance, her beauty, those dark locks and her heartfelt smile, they are all just accessories for her charm and wit.
Her blog is as much about her style as it is about interacting with her readers and giving them tips on everything. Add to that her trips around everywhere and her little personal entries, and the blog is a must-go-to for everyone.
Still not enough to allure you? Well how about this; she is the best beach diva of this decade! She is an avid Instagrammer posting as many pics of food as of anything else and taking scenic shots of herself on the beach. How can you not love her?
My personal wish is to see her blog topping every chart for international fashion bloggers, because she appeals to my eastern heritage as well as my western passion; till that day I can just wait and pray and be an avid fan.
You can in the meanwhile go see her blog, and fall in love with this one-of-a-kind gal!

Happy blogging!

Beauty tip for today; Spritz rose water on your face several times a day to keep your skin nourished. And I cannot stress enough on the need to avoid eating too many nuts (peanuts, walnuts etc.); you all know this but still never act on the advice. In the long run, too many nuts are always damaging to your skin and hormonal levels!
