Who is Gull?

Hi, I am Gull, a twenty-something medical student who fell in love with all things art and fashion at a very young age (probably when I used to play with my elder sister’s clothes and makeup).

Because writing about myself isn’t an easy job I will answer some FAQs and I hope through them you can know me better, both as a person and as a blogger, because for me that is the most important thing here-to be someone you know, someone you can relate to!

When did you begin your blog?
2012, November

Why did you begin blogging?
I felt there was a lack of fashion blogs giving enough tips on-well fashion. There were a lot of OOTDs and a lot of inspiration but no guide on how to bring it all together. No tips on working on your own style and incorporating the latest trends into your wardrobe. And most blogs offered nothing in written content, with a billion pictures of an outfit per blog post yet not enough words to satisfy someone like me who wants to know more-why did you get that outfit? Where did you go when you wore it, with whom were you when you did? Just-anything to make me feel connected to the blogger.
Also, when I began my blog there were very few people I could relate to based on my roots, that is, there weren’t enough desi-bloggers and I felt the lack often very strongly.
Both those factors pushed me to finally begin my own blog!

What is the story behind your blog’s name?

To be honest, nothing too deep.
I was pretty young when I began the blog (fresh out of high school) and I had told literally no one about it so I couldn’t take anyone’s advice either. But I knew I wanted something unique-something magnificent. I kept staring at those two words long enough that they morphed into one leading to the name.

Do you know that your blog name resembles a french word?

Yes, I do! I actually realized this a while after launching my blog. And I feel it might have been where the name came from. I had taken a French course about a year or so before and most probably I subconsciously transferred the word ‘magnifique’ into my blog name. By the time I realized this though it was too late to change the name, so…

What are you doing when you aren’t blogging?

Studying (medicine student). I also love to read and I love to draw. If I am not doing one of those I am either trying to plan parties or hanging out with my family!

Where do you want to see The Magfique Way in the future?

Honestly, trying to manage blogging with med-school means that I can’t give it as much attention as I would want to. Sometimes even a single post can seem too much of a task.
However, what I want most for my blog is a stable following. The number doesn’t matter, but I want to make a community here via TMW where I can interact with the people who choose to come here and stay.

Have you tried to monetize your blog?

No, and for now, I don’t even plan to. Like I mentioned before, a stable community is what I want here-for now!

How do you manage the blog with med-school?

As I said before, it is hard. And that is why so many times I go months without posting. Which I always regret. But when you have to go through piles of books for each exam, taking out time to do even one post can seem like an uphill task.

Where are you from? And where are you living right now?

I am a through and through Lahori (born and brought up here)-it is a city in Pakistan (one of its three main cities). And I am living here too, for now!
